A Gentle Approach to the New Year

The start of a new year often comes with a rush of big promises and unrealistic expectations. This year, I’m choosing something different — setting goals that feel achievable, balanced, and supportive of overall happiness, rather than overwhelming or far-fetched.

I’ve found that the most meaningful goals are spread across different areas of life. A mix of creativity, health, learning, and family feels far more sustainable than focusing on just one thing.

From a health perspective, I want to move my body in ways that feel strong and kind. This year, I’m aiming for a combination of strength training, Pilates, and running — not to punish my body, but to support it. Stretching and mobility will be a priority, alongside a nourishing, balanced diet. I’d love to lose around half a stone, but more importantly, I want to feel comfortable, confident, and at ease in my own body.

I’m also making space for personal happiness. That means carving out time for myself, doing small things that help me feel more like me — whether that’s taking care with how I dress, slowing down my mornings, or simply allowing myself moments of quiet. Feeling beautiful isn’t about perfection; it’s about feeling aligned and content.

This year, I want to gently challenge my fears too. Flying has always been one of them, but I’m determined not to let fear hold me back. I’d love to do more travelling and experience new places, even if it means stepping slightly outside my comfort zone.

On a creative and educational level, I have a few simple goals I’m really excited about. I’d love to finish my series of Philippa Gregory books, make time to read more consistently, and explore new recipes in the kitchen — especially Korean dishes, which I’ve been eager to try. Learning something new always feels refreshing and grounding.

Family remains at the heart of everything. I want to be more intentional with our time together — more quality moments, fewer distractions. One small but meaningful change I’m aiming for is eating every meal together at the kitchen table, creating space for conversation and connection. I also want to spend more time outdoors with my children, enjoying natural, unstructured moments that feel organic and grounding.

I’m also becoming more mindful about what I buy and wear. This year, I want to work on my wardrobe by choosing eco-friendly, organic, and non-synthetic materials — investing in fewer pieces, but ones that feel good, last longer, and align with my values.

Above all, this year is about balance, intention, and joy. Goals that support happiness, health, and connection — without pressure or perfection.

Here’s to a new year filled with gentle growth, meaningful moments, and plenty of space to breathe.

Happy New Year to you all.
